The three main units of learning include:

 
Te Ātaarangi 1     -
Te Tuara  
Toku Reo Ohooho

= 450 hours

This module will provide for the initial development of the oral Māori language of a student and the student's ability to think in Māori.  
Te Ātaarangi 2     -
Te Tinana  
Tōku Reo Māpihi Maurea

= 495 hours

The main focus of this module will be to strengthen and widen the Māori language knowledge and experiences of the student.  
Te Ātaarangi 3     -

Te Mana, Te Ihi, Te Wehi

 
  Tōku Reo Whakakai

= 180 hours

  This module will focus on widening and strengthening the student's knowledge of the rules of Māori language. It will extend the work of the previous two modules.  
  Total = 1125 hours
     
The two specialist units are:  
Tuhi Tika
To teach students = 180 hours
  to write Māori correctly

 
Āhuatanga Ako This is an introduction to the = 135 hours
  teaching of children under the  
  doctrine of Te Aho Matua and Te Whāriki  
     
  Total = 315 hours
  Total = 1440 hours
